So… We Started a Blog
Starting a blog is humbling. There’s something particularly vulnerable about opening a blank page and thinking, Surely people want to hear more from me.
Especially in 2026, when the internet already has approximately nine billion opinions, newsletters, podcasts, reels, TikToks, and people telling you about their morning routines.
And yet… here we are.
I’ve thought about starting a blog for Nurture Through Nature for a long time. There are so many things I want to share that don’t quite fit into an Instagram caption or an email announcing the next sauna night.
Stories from this land. Things we’re learning about living off-grid. Thoughts about rest and wellness and community. The strange realities of running a retreat center in the woods. The things that go wrong. The things that unexpectedly go right. The people who come through here and remind us why this place exists in the first place.
And maybe some things that have absolutely nothing to do with running a retreat center. I’ve also always wanted to be a writer so maybe here is my big start!
Because Nurture Through Nature has never really been just a business.
It’s a practice. A practice in slowing down a little. In gathering without needing a reason. In sitting around a fire, sweating together in a sauna, eating at the same table, walking through the woods, making something with our hands, or spending an afternoon doing absolutely nothing productive.
It’s also a practice in living a little differently. We’re off-grid. We run on solar power. We use composting toilets. We haul things uphill. We fix things constantly. We have mice and mud and snowstorms and occasionally very strong opinions about firewood.
It is beautiful here. It is also deeply unglamorous sometimes. And I think both are worth talking about.
I don’t really know what this blog will become yet, which may be the most humbling part of starting one. There is no grand editorial calendar. I don't have twelve months of perfectly optimized content waiting in a folder.
I just have stories. Things I’m curious about. Things I’ve learned. Things I’m still figuring out. And a little corner of the internet where there’s finally enough room to tell you about them.
So, welcome to the Nurture Through Nature blog.
Maybe we’ll talk about sauna science one week and the ridiculous logistics of running an off-grid property the next. Maybe I’ll share something I’ve been thinking about on a walk through the woods. Maybe you’ll get recipes, retreat ideas, sustainability practices, conversations about wellness, stories from our community, or an unnecessarily detailed account of something that broke and what it taught us.
I can’t promise this will be polished. Actually, I hope it isn’t. Nurture Through Nature has always been about making a little more room for being human.
I suppose this blog can be, too. Thanks for being here at the beginning.
Let’s see what this becomes.
With love,
Emily
