The photo above is of Pleasant Mountain, the location of our retreat land and
meeting house, viewed from a nearby waterway we frequently explore. We are
honored to be caretakers of this gem and share it with others in the name of
beauty, creation, and respect.
We create a safe, enriching circle and layers of opportunities for you to find more
deep peace and growth in your life. We weave mindfulness practices into all of
our happenings throughout your stay and incorporate gentle nature hikes for
reflection and restoration. Guided meditations open and close our days. Our
circles provide a balance of depth and lightness, group and solo space, movement
and stillness.
"Zen" encourages turning each daily event into a spiritual practice. This is a
practice in pursuit of self-knowledge or "awakening", not only for self, but
toward the goal that all humans may realize freedom.
By practicing doing what you are doing when you are doing it, the
mind releases, the heart opens and expansive possibility inspires.
All weekend retreats are held in Denmark, Maine, a quiet, rural hamlet
that is the gateway to Maine's
pristine mountains and lakes, overlooking New England's treasured Saco
River Valley and Mount Washington Valley.

Of all the purchases needed to run this retreat space,
I think my very favorite has been this 1880 wood fired cook stove made
in Bangor, Maine, our very own Star Kineo. It works great and baking goodies
in its oven and cooking on the top of it, having the smells permeate and
waft throughout the woodwork, is just about enough to make me faint with
ecstatic joy. Looking forward to sharing in the experience with you!

During the summer and fall of 2003, the trees from the land offered themselves
for us all and have been reshaped into a structure that houses hearts
and spirits on the path to wholeness. It was difficult to ask them to
give their lives for us and I knew that they would stand tall in honor
of what was called to be. They have.
This Great Tree
On this Great Mountain,
We are here.
Once a Great Forest
Once a Great Tree
Fashioned to Lumber
Framing these Hearts
Forming this Shelter
Transforming our Spirits
Bringing together,
People.

Opening our Minds
Merging our Energies
Building
Binding
Joining
Bonding
Mending
Connecting
each Spirit,
To this Great Tree,
In this Great Forest,
On this Great Mountain.
Branching out with Grace,
As
Roots
sink
deeply
to the Earth.
Written by Lindy Allen
Inspired by the raising of “the Barn” and the people she met while building
it.
