April 25, 2009: Day Paddle in the Brownfield Bog with
Lakes Environmental Assoc & NTN~co-ed

Join us on a quiet day paddle exploring the pristine and undisturbed Brownfield Bog. The Brownfield Bog Wildlife Management Area, maintained by the state, contains hundreds of acres of bog to explore. As we travel the shores and wetlands by canoe, enjoy ecological sights and birding opportunities. Experience ways to increase awareness towards our surroundings and our place in the natural environment. Novice and experienced paddlers welcome. Pace will be gentle to connect with the wildlife and landscape. Plan to meet at 10am and finish around 2pm. Group size: 6 to 12 participants.

Fee: $25 and includes paddling and safety lesson, guided excursion, canoe, paddle, lifejacket, and programming. Bring your own water and lunch.

Come sweat yourself clean! Volunteer for a good cause! Or you can help out for the day and earn $75 credit towards a retreat. Work 2 days and earn $150 in your NTN retreat savings account. August 16-22, 2009: Women's Holistic New Moon Wilderness Living Canoe Camping Retreat, Penobscot River, Lobster Lake and Chesuncook Lake, North Maine Woods

Wilderness Canoe TripsJoin Nurture Through Nature paddling peacefully along the ancient waterways of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail where the Penobscot Indian Nation lived and thrived as well as guided Henry David Thoreau along his adventures in the Maine Woods. Lobster Lake is truly a magical place with white sand beaches, intense granite cliffs and dense forest surrounding this remote deep water lake. Mountain profiles and bountiful wildlife mesmerize. The West Branch of the Penobscot River is a flat water Class I river section and is one of the most scenic in New England with little sign of civilization.

Come rejuvenate, laugh and learn in the company of women. This 7 day river and lake paddling adventure will be leisurely paced and geared towards novice and experienced canoe campers, alike. We may spend 2 nights at a few sites along the way, allowing us to settle in and enjoy the beauty and satisfaction of having paddled to a new destination along our journey. We will meld into our surroundings, traveling gently and promoting a caretaker philosophy in all of our wanderings.

On this retreat, we offer a gentle mix of holistic programming on on lay-over days aimed to help everyone to fully enter the present moment, be it through guided meditation, yoga, The Work of Byron Katie, and traditional wilderness living skills. As our elders have taught us, we will share with you the skills of using wild medicinal plants, making cordage from natural fibers, and making a cedar bowl using fire and stone as your main tools.

As the moon wanes to New, you will witness the most amazing night sky you may have experienced. Observe the Milky Way after a spectacular sunsets. Experience the transformation possible after 7 days in the remote wilderness of Northern Maine connecting to the earth rhythm and your own natural rhythm.

Package Price: $950 includes all camping and canoeing equipment, land use fees, camping permits and meals beginning with lunch on day one and ending with lunch on the take out day. Allow for one travel day both before and after the retreat for those flying in. Join us on this unique and gentle paddling retreat opportunity for women in which we blend an outdoor experience with tested methods of releasing stress and bringing in more long lasting peace. Take in the fall foliage along a meandering flat water river watershed journey, weaving it's way through Western Maine's mountains and lakes region with the  White Mountain National Forest as your backdrop.  This retreat will offer the perfect immersion into both the outer landscape and the one within. This trip is also a great start for a canoe camping adventure for those new to this method of travel.

We will share in guided meditations, silent meditation walks and gentle yoga as well as solo, paired and group exercises aimed at increasing our awareness and sense of interconnectedness to all that is. We will share in circles utilizing The Work of Byron Katie, a meditation method that unravels our stressful thoughts, resulting in more freedom and joy. Meet at Nurture Through Nature's Eco-Retreat Center in Denmark for a pot luck supper and evening circle to prepare for our journey. Spend your first night in a solar-powered eco-cabin. We will paddle our way back to Denmark, taking our time along the way to take in the silence and experience enriching programming along the shores of this picturesque waterway in fall foliage colors.
