of inquiry that teaches you to identify and question the stressful thoughts that cause all the suffering in your life. It's a way to understand and be aware of yourself and find what's hurting you and begin to end your stress and suffering.
"I need to know what to do."
"Life isn't fair."
"There's not enough time."
"I know what you need."
"There's too much to do."
"S/He rejected me."
"There's something wrong with me."
"I am too fat, too old, too sick, too short, too tall, too…too…too…………"
The more we begin to learn about our own mind, the more we discover how we all share the same thoughts and beliefs. We begin to realize that our inner world, our perceptions, judgments and stories are the source of our suffering. Once we identify the stressful thought, we ask ourselves four questions and see if we can discover how the opposite could just as true if not truer than the original belief.
1. Is it true?
2. Can you absolutely know that it's true?
3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
4. Who would you be without that thought?
Turn the thought around. Find three genuine and specific examples of how that turn around is as true or truer.
The turnarounds are an opportunity to experience the opposite of what you believe to be true. You may find several turnarounds.
For example, "Paul should understand me" turns around to:
I should understand me. I should understand Paul. Paul
shouldn't understand me. Let yourself fully experience the turnarounds. For each one, find at least three genuine, specific examples in your life where the turnaround is true.

"Jen, Tender work today, thank you... So exciting to imagine a world where our deepest shame can be beheld by another, mirrored back, and in that moment of inquiry be delivered into a sweet, sacred, experience of unconditional love...for ourselves! Grace as oxygen." ~MLB, Michigan
"The Work™ is amazing. I was ready to not talk to my sister for a very long time. I had a lot of thoughts that were separating me from her. Jen took me through one session and it just turned everything around IN ME. My sister didn't change, but it doesn't make any difference because the thoughts and emotions of pain and hurt are gone. " ~SJW, Kansas City
is unlike any other school on earth - instead of focusing on learning, students unlearn the fearful stories we have innocently attached to. Graduates are prepared to facilitate this transformative and simple method in unleashing stressful thoughts and beliefs that cause internal pain and suffering. Being free doesn't come from learning new concepts. It is who you already are once your limiting beliefs have been met with understanding." Byron Katie

"The Work is called self-help, but it is far more than that: it is self-realization, and it leads to the end of suffering. As we investigate a stressful thought, we see for ourselves that it's untrue; we get to look at the cause-and-effect of it, to observe in sobering detail exactly what modes of pain and confusion result from believing it; then we get a glimpse into the empty mirror, the world beyond our story of the world, & see what our life would be like without the thought; and finally we get to experience the opposite of what we have so firmly believed. Once we deeply question a thought, it loses its power to cause us pain, & eventually it ceases even to arise.""I don't let go of my thoughts," Katie says. I meet them with understanding. Then they let go of me." A Thousand Names for Joy ~ Byron Katie
