Most join retreats listed on the calendar page without knowing anyone else -- some bring a friend, travel companion, or family member along. Others design their own personalized retreat with their own circle of friends, family or co-workers.
The group organizer contacts NTN to select an available date. Once the dates are secured the group leader and NTN staff design a retreat getaway utilizing the facilities and services available. From here the group organizer sends in a nonrefundable $200 deposit. Upon receipt, each member of the group will receive a confirmation packet with retreat details for planning. Each participant will then make their final payment towards the retreat costs.
We want to stress that our intention is to get people out in nature, not to "conquer" it, but to connect with it's gentle rhythm and pace. We want to expose people to the beauty and stillness found in the quiet, less traveled places. We have attempted to rate the level of activity we will be experiencing on each retreat that is necessary to get to and from each destination. Do not hesitate to inquire in advance if this general scale below still brings question or concern. Our pace accommodates and considers each group member. Most trips do, however, require a basic level of health and stability by the nature of transporting ourselves, gear and food by boat or foot, and setting up and breaking down our camp sites. Team work comes in handy here. Age is not a limiting factor and our eldest to date has been 76, with most in their 60's, 50's, 40's and some in their 30's.
1=Basic, general health and wellness recommended. Shorter distances traveled by canoe or foot, gentle terrain, often staying in the same camp site for multiple, consecutive days (or for the entire retreat). Explore landscape on appropriately-paced day trips. Includes team approach to loading and unloading boats and setting up camp.
2=Moderate fitness level very helpful, some distance traveled by canoe or foot, moving to multiple wilderness campsites over course of retreat to reach final destination, involves more wilderness exploration, loading and unloading of canoes. Includes team approach to loading and unloading boats, & setting up camp.
We have developed a Fair Work Exchange program with a variety of options for a fee reduction. You lend a hand in exchange for fee reduction prior to your retreat participation. Please contact us for the application.
Each cabin offers a 2 burner propane stove, pots, pans, utensils, plates, cups, bowls, coffee maker/tea pot and other items to meet your basic kitchen cooking needs.
Thank you for asking and no. We do, however, on some scheduled retreats, offer meals as listed.
There is no running water in the cabins, however, there is an ample supply available in glass containers in your cabin. You have access to refill the water jugs on your own as needed. The water provided is pure mountain well water from a drilled well on the property sourced through the granite subsurface 80’ down. “It’s so good, it tastes like candy.” Biased and truthful quote from owner.
We have a lovely outdoor shower. It is sourced from well water. It is air temperature water (unheated except by ambient air temp warming pipeline it sits in until turned on.) It is pressured from gravity. The outdoor shower is closed during winter but we are now offering a year round traditional Finnish sauna bath.
